Speech Sound Production Therapy

Speech Sound Production Therapy, also known as articulation or phonological therapy, focuses on improving how speech sounds are produced. If a person has difficulty saying certain sounds correctly—such as substituting “w” for “r” (e.g., “wabbit” instead of “rabbit”)—this therapy helps them learn the correct placement of their tongue to accurately produce erred sounds and increase their intelligibility (i.e., the ability to be understood.

Common signs that a child is struggling with speech sound production include:

✔️When their speech is hard to understand

✔️Difficulty producing specific speech sounds

✔️Speech errors that do not resolve with age

In therapy sessions, we use fun, structured activities to teach the correct tongue placement for the appropriate production of target sounds, practice sounds in a hierarchical manner (e.g., start with words, then move to sentences, then to conversation), and build confidence in speaking clearly.

Clear speech leads to clearer communication.
Let’s work together to help your child speak with confidence.
