Feeding/Swallowing Therapy
Feeding Therapy at K.O. Speech & Myo - Chicago supports children who have difficulty eating or drinking due to oral motor and swallowing challenges. Messy eating can be due to a reverse swallow pattern or “tongue thrust,” which causes the tongue to push the food or liquid forward, resulting in spillage from the mouth. Picky eating can start from difficulty chewing or swallowing a food that then turns into a sensitivity or dislike of the food. This is why it’s more than just messy or picky eating—it’s about helping children learn how to eat safely, comfortably, and confidently.
Common reasons a child might benefit from feeding therapy include:
✔️Trouble chewing or swallowing
✔️Limited food choices due to picky eating
✔️Gagging, coughing, or choking while eating
✔️Refusal of entire food groups or textures
We use a gentle, individualized approach to improve oral motor coordination for appropriate chewing patterns, increase swallowing function and efficiency, reduce mealtime stress for children and families, and encourage positive, healthy eating habits.
Feeding is a skill—just like walking or talking.
With the right support, your child can learn to eat more comfortably and confidently.
